AboutI made this project for an application to study Game Design, just as a year later Boneyard. I didn't have that much experience in coding yet, so this remained largely art and concept focused.
IdeaThe theme for this years applicants was "Hive". I understood that as in "prey" or "catch", as well as in the idea of a hive mind, where every individual in a large "colony" has a special role. I tried to incorporate this into the theme of the game, where a mouse infiltrates the cat's castle which is filled with all sorts of specialists. They have money, which is your "prey", but if you wake them up, you yourself will become that prey.
The gameplay would have looked something like "Temple Run", but from the side. The mouse automatically runs to the right and the player can only change its vertical movement through jumping. You have 3 different floors that you can be on and a minimap that tells you what's coming up ahead (to compensate for the lack of the ability to look ahead). If you run into a cat, you cause them to wake up and make them chase you. Each type will have a different effect, but as they are very lazy, they will stop chasing you after a while (if you don't screw up). The knight would just speed up the horizontal movement in general, the cook would throw knives and other kitchen tools at you that need to be dodged and the priest cat could cast spells to make you hallucinate and see a changed level. |
